Catalyst 137

Client: Voisin Capital

Status: Completed - 2017

Location: 137 Glasgow Street, Kitchener ON

Project Type: Office

Service: Architecture

Located at 137 Glasgow Street in Kitchener, this 62-year-old, 475,000 ft² former tire warehouse has been transformed into a purpose-built space for makers. Catalyst 137 is a “one-stop-shop” for the resources needed to build the next generation of Internet of Things (IoT) companies.

The building is divided into 5 bays, with prominent wayfinding signage for ease of navigation (Image 5). Much of the building’s original structure was re-used in the renovations, however a significant number of windows, skylights, and glazing panels were introduced to open up the space, and allow in more natural light. Re-grading occurred during construction to make the site more accessible.

SRM Architects and Urban Designers was the Lead Architect overseeing the design and construction base-building, as well as a number of tenant suites, including MioVision Technologies, Swift² Labs, F45 Training, Westmount Signs, Sigma Point Technologies and more.

This project was the winner of the 2018 Grand Valley Construction Association Award of Excellence, and the 2019 City of Kitchener Urban Design Award for Low Rise.
