SRM worked with IN8 Developments Inc. to complete master planning and obtain planning approvals for this large 4-tower development. The site is that of the Hamilton City Centre mall, and aims to revitalize this under-utilized space within the heart of downtown Hamilton.
The proposed development includes 4 towers, ranging from 26-30 storeys, with a large shared podium. In the centre of the development is a large, privately owned, public plaza with pedestrian connections to surrounding streets. It is proposed to contain over 1,900 units, including 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom, and live-work units, with a gross construction area of over 1,800,000 ft².
Given the prominent nature of this site, and the magnitude of the project, SRM worked extensively with City Planning and Urban Design Staff to develop an urban design strategy for the project. In addition, we worked to incorporated three items of cultural value into the redevelopment of the property including the mechanical clock mechanism originally part of old City Hall (which previously occupied the site and is currently installed in the City Centre), a collection of bronze figurines comprising an art installation, known as the Lineage-Rotunda Frieze located in the rotunda of the City Centre, and an Eaton’s department store sign currently located on the roof of the City Centre.
