Craigwiel Gardens Long-Term Care Home

Client: Craigwiel Gardens

Status: Completed - 2026

Location: 221 Ailsa Craig Main St, R.R.#1, Ailsa Craig

Project Type: Senior Living

Service: Architecture, Interior Design

This project was delivered in two phases to maintain continuous operation of the existing Long-Term Care home while accommodating the construction of a new standalone facility on the same site. This approach enabled the transition of residents, while supporting the broader renewal of the Craigholme campus of care.

Phase 1 involved construction of a new 96-bed home beside the occupied existing facility. To accommodate the new building footprint, a corner portion of the existing home was demolished. This required temporary relocation of existing home’s main entrance and resident drop-off area, along with revised exiting routes and life safety systems to ensure existing home remained fully operational and safe throughout construction.

Phase 2 involved demolition of the existing home, including remediation of areas where it adjoined the retained seniors’ apartments and adult day program/administration facilities. Throughout this phase, services to the remaining portions of the existing facility were maintained, while the utility infrastructure servicing the overall site was reconfigured and back-fed from the new LTC facility.
