Green on the Grand

Client: Green on the Grand

Status: Completed - 1996

Location: Kitchener ON

Project Type: Office, Sustainable

Service: Architecture

Completed in 1996, Green on the Grand is one of the first high-performance, energy efficient office buildings in Waterloo Region (and Canada), and was the first C-2000 certified office buildings in Canada by Natural Resources Canada. The C-2000 program was a pre-cursor to LEED and Passive House Design standards.

The 25,000 ft² building was conceived through a partnership by Owner Ian Cook and Enermodal Engineering Ltd with the goal to create a building with lower energy usage and environmental impact than traditional office buildings. Design considerations included a focus on sustainable materials selection (considering embodied energy, off-gassing potential and cost), and building envelope efficiency.
