Our history

Founded in 1961, SRM Architects + Urban Designers (SRM) is a mid-sized Architectural firm with offices in Kitchener and Toronto. Our team of over 75 staff specialize in Architectural, Interior Design, and Urban Design.

From our roots as Snider, Huget, and Ryan Architects, we have over sixty years’ experience designing innovative structures across Ontario.

Having merged with Michael Spaziani Architect Inc. (MSAi) in March of 2023, SRM is pleased to expand our service offering to include high-quality Urban Design and Master Planning Services for our clients.



May 16

Snider, Huget, and Ryan Architects & Consulting Engineers officially opens for business, with an office located at 98 King St S in Waterloo.


Ron March, an original employee of the firm becomes a Partner after the departure of John Ryan, and the firm’s name changes to Snider, Huget, March Architects


SRM completes the design of one of their most prominent historical buildings in Waterloo Region, the Waterloo Region Courthouse at Weber & Queen Streets in Kitchener.


Len Huget leaves the firm to start his own independent practice in Hamilton, Ontario. Rick Reichard joins the firm.


Rick Reichard becomes a partner in the firm. The firm’s name changes to Snider, Reichard, March Architects

Late 1980’s

SRM relocates from their office in Uptown Waterloo to a new office located at 145 Columbia Street in Waterloo.


Green on the Grand is built. Green on the Grand is the first office building to meet the requirements of Canada’s C-2000 program (a pre-cursor to LEED and Passive House Design standards).


August 1

Edward Thomas becomes a Principal at the firm, and the firm incorporates, changing our name to SRM Architects Inc.


SRM completes interior renovations of the new office at 279 King Street West in Kitchener, and relocates from 145 Columbia Street in Waterloo.


As SRM continues to grow, we begin renovations and expansions within our building at 279 King Street West.


October 31

Tracey Swift, Ryan Hicks, and Marc Villemaire become Partners of SRM


March 1

SRM opens a second office in Etobicoke and merges with Michael Spaziani Architect Inc. (MSAi) for an exciting growth opportunity within the GTA market
